Lackawanna Avenue at the river crossing

Almost nothing about this photograph is recorded — not the day, not the crew standing on the deck, not what they had stopped for. The one thing in the frame that can be dated is the building at the far end: the Central Railroad of New Jersey’s passenger station, built between 1891 and 1893 to a Wilson Brothers design and on the National Register since 1979. It is still there. The bridge under the photographer’s feet is not — the crossing was rebuilt, and the trolley tracks went with it.

On the fit	The two frames arrived already matched to the same framing, so this pair needed no scaling at all — only a crop to the series ratio, taken off the bottom so the lamp standards and the overhead wires stay whole. The station carries the registration: turret, finials, dormers and the arcade beneath them all superimpose. The bridge does not — deck, railings, lamps and trolley tracks are all replacements, and only the line of the crossing is old. Both halves are enlarged about three and a half times from 571-pixel originals, so this pair reads softer than the rest of the series; better scans would be worth having.
